Maria Wigley – Artist

Some fantastic original work from Birmingham Vintage Fair trader Maria Wigley

These are examples of photographs that Maria have transferred onto fabric, then stitched onto.

Maria says, “Some of these works are old family photos dating back to the early 1900s to present day, while some are copyright right free imagery that I have found in the Flickr Commons. Other images used have been taken from 1970s magazines that had been sitting dormant in a dusty loft in Bromley.”

Maria sees her work as reworking and reviving forgotten images as she breathes new life into something that has been made redundant, lost or neglected. Each piece is stitched adding a sense of permanency and at times a subversive suggestion into other meanings and each is is unique,.

A selection have been framed in reclaimed frames or stretched onto board. Maria confirms “All are ready to hang on the wall or place on a prominent mantel piece and never be forgotten in a dusty loft or draw again!”

Maria offers these textile art pieces to us or can do commissions if you have an image that wants to be stitched up. Come and see more of Maria’s work on June 25th. More on Maria here
